232nd Birthday Flag Ceremony at the Presidio Aug. 20

Representatives of the Tohono O'odham Nation participated in a ceremony raising five flags over the Presidio de San Agustin del Tucson. American, Spanish, Mexican, Confederate, State of Arizona flags were presented, as well as the flags of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui nations. Also among the banners was a replica of the 28-star American flag brought by the Mormon Battalion and flown briefly over Tucson on December 16, 1846. Many in attendance wore period dress from the era in which the Presidio was active.
